Revolutionizing Gold Recovery: Introducing the Cone

We are excited to introduce a groundbreaking innovation in gold recovery technology: the Cone. It is a key piece of technology for the artisanal and small scale gold mining sector that can increase production and prepare high grade concentrates that are key to eliminating the use of harmful mercury. This new technology was initially developed by Cody and Dar and their company Goldlands Mining Equipment in Langley, British Columbia. AGE has modified it to be more suitable and more affordable for artisanal miners and has manufactured new models in Peru together with its partner metallurgical fabricator Roberto Vargas and his company Metasil in Lima.

The Cone, also known as the helicoidal concentrator, is a clean, efficient, and very easy to understand and operate solution for gold recovery. It is not a black box but rather an open visual process that miners can calibrate to their needs. It is capable of achieving recovery rates of over 90%. Newly designed specifically for ASM miners, the Cone is another tool being developed and deployed by Artisanal Gold Enterprises to improve the artisanal gold mining industry.

As Dr. Telmer explained in a recent presentation, “Small scale and artisanal gold mining (ASM) is an important activity that contributes to the economy. ASM or alluvial gold mining often use mercury which is a serious problem due to its toxicity which constitutes a high risk to the environment and has serious effects on the health and well being of the mining population. Clean technology gold recovery alternatives aim to optimise gold recovery and progressively reduce and eliminate the use of mercury.”

The Cone, uses the specific gravity of gold to separate it from other minerals. Its conical shape with multiple riffles allows for the separation of dense material particles from lighter ones. The gold is deposited at the exit as a high grade concentrate of gold, and the tailings are directed to the back.

For more details on this innovative technology, you can read an article published in Papua New Guinea’s the Post Courier by participants from a Cone workshop here: https://www.postcourier.com.pg/new-gold-recovery-innovation-to-increase-production/

The Cone assemblage includes steel base, the conical concentrator and its components, the feed hopper, water system and pumps, motor, roller wheels, speed control, and electrical panel. It is a complete package.
